BetOnline have been at the forefront of the US gambling industry for several years now offering sports betting, an online casino and a poker room, all from the same website.
They accept large bets on all US sports, release early odds and offer more live betting markets than any other book in the USA.
As an American bettor, every few months I can expect two things in my mail box: a water bill and a postcard from Panama based sportsbook BetOnline.
Founded in 2001 in Costa Rica, BetOnline soon moved over to Panama, and quickly ramped up its player base and organizational operations. At one point the firm employed more than 300 people, and has since established itself as one of the premier Latin American sportsbooks on the internet.
When I was given the task of reviewing BetOnline, I knew what I was getting myself into. The site is very familiar to me, as I have been a member of the site for a few years, and the frequent mailers I get often have a promotion that draws me back. Thus, this review will be coming from someone with experience with the operation, who is trying to put things into perspective for a new player.
Slick Sportsbook, Decent Distractions
When taking a look at BetOnline, I feel it is appropriate to start with the site’s biggest draw: Its sportsbook. The company has crafted a smooth looking website with a backbone that is geared toward the sports bettor.
The framework for BetOnline’s book is a series of grids. While it is not the cleanest layout we have seen, it is good enough to put it into a high echelon of internet sports betting sites that we have seen.
Sports bets accepted include wagers on: Auto Racing, Baseball, Boxing, Cricket, Darts, Football, Golf, Hockey, Martial Arts, Rugby, Snooker, Soccer, Tennis, Lacrosse, Softball, Olympics, and Prop Bets.
It should be noted that not all of those selections have available action every day. When reviewing the site I did not see any action being taken on auto racing, darts, golf, hockey, rugby, lacrosse, softball, or the Olympics. While some of these are understandable (Olympics), having future bets on off season sports like hockey (or in season sports like Golf) is a bit of a shame.
Bet types accepted on BetOnline include: Straight Bets, Parlay Bets, If Bets, Reverse Bets, and Teasers. These are all pretty much standard fare, but it is good to see that they are indeed offered on the site. Unfortunately I was unable to hit anything worthy of gloating about.
On the distraction side of things, BetOnline has a very capable casino complete with 3D slots, live dealer games, and a poker room that offers some very good game selections. Most online sports books use their casino offering as a lame add on, but that is not the case here as they have really stepped up to the plate by offering a live dealer solution as well as BetSoft slots. I would say the live dealer option puts them above industry giants like Bovada when it comes to casino games.
As noted, the poker room is also a nice feature, and I ended up spending an amount of time comparable to what we put in with the sportsbook. The software needs to be installed on your computer, but it is worth it if you are an avid poker player.
Plenty of Promotions
If you are looking for a good amount of promotions, BetOnline is your book. As I mentioned above, I regularly get postal mailings from these guys and the offers are simply awesome. BetOnline offers a great 25% bonus on every deposit, and the site offers free bets all the time. One such example that I overlooked before starting my review was the $25 live betting free play, which is simply awesome.
Needless to say, you will always find a bonus on this site that is worth your time. BetOnline’s promotions team puts up some of the best offers we have seen on a betting site. Period.
Bound Up Banking, But Solid Customer Service
Because they deal with American punters, BetOnline’s banking system is more bound up than its European counterparts. The site takes Visa, Money Wires through Western Union or Moneygram, and Bank Transfers.
While those options are limited, I did find that deposits were quickly accepted with bonuses credited as soon as I contacted my customer service rep.
Withdrawals are processed fast, just not as quickly as the site’s deposits. I requested a payout by Wire, and it was set in 28 hours. Not bad for an American friendly site.
In terms of accepted withdrawal methods, BetOnline will give you the option of requesting a check, bank wire transfer, Western Union or Moneygram transfer, and book transfers.
In terms of customer service, I loved what I got from. On the telephone the group speaks clearly and is very friendly and knowledgeable. Online instant messages are just as good, and we were quickly credited with bonuses and back to playing in a matter of minutes.
The Bottom Line
So now that you have read our review of BetOnline, should you play here? Absolutely. The site’s great bonuses, customer service, and casino type games more than make up for a slightly sloppy sportsbook page.
We find that BetOnline more than stacks up with its competition and feel that it is one of the most stable online betting brands in the world. Definitely check it out.
